TCG News Roundup — MTG 2027 Sets and Pokémon's 2026 Calendar

During MagicCon: Amsterdam on Friday, Wizards revealed the three in-universe Magic sets planned for 2027, plus dates for the year's conventions. The lineup opens with Nauctis: The Sunken Realm, launching February 5, 2027. Set in an underwater plane, it features merfolk, seals, lobster-folk and deities of Nauctis, and kicks off a multi-year story arc following Reality Fracture.

Next comes Kamigawa: Titanbreach, arriving in June 2027, followed by Zhalfir on October 1, 2027. The Zhalfir set marks the return of chronomancy master Teferi Akosa. On the accessory side, Wizards also revealed Mystery Booster: Commander Edition, aimed at Commander Draft, with 20 cards per pack and 59 new mechanical designs for Commander.

Beyond the in-universe sets, three unannounced Universes Beyond releases are slated for April, August and November 2027. Wizards also confirmed the event calendar: this year's final MagicCon runs in Atlanta from November 13–15, while 2027 brings four events, including Detroit (Feb 26–28) and Tokyo (May 14–16). The Magic Hall of Fame returns this year after being paused in 2019, and the first Magic: The Gathering Limited Championship takes place June 18–20 in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

The Pokémon TCG's 2026 calendar is anchored by the Mega Evolution era, the year's block inspired by Pokémon Legends: Z-A, which introduces new rarities called Mega Attack Rare and Mega Hyper Rare. The schedule includes Ascended Heroes (Jan 30), Perfect Order (Mar 27), Chaos Rising (May 22), Pitch Black (Jul 17), Storm Emerald (Aug/Sep) and the all-foil 30th Celebration set (Sep 18).

Chaos Rising launches May 22, 2026 with a pre-release running May 9–17. Pitch Black, headlined by Mega Darkrai ex, arrives July 17 with a pre-release from July 4–12. Storm Emerald, featuring Mega Rayquaza EX, is expected in August or September 2026.

The 30th Celebration set lands in September as the anniversary expansion, and will be the first Pokémon TCG release to launch simultaneously worldwide. It includes more than 150 cards, with 30 classic reprints and 30 unique Pikachu cards. It also introduces the Futuristic Rare rarity, headed by Mew ex and Mewtwo ex, alongside new Pokémon ex such as Greninja ex and Umbreon ex. The year marks the 30th anniversary of the Pokémon TCG, which launched in Japan in October 1996.

Long-range roadmaps like these give collectors time to plan.
